Psychoanalyzing Buffalo Bill And Hannibal From Silence Of The Lambs?

For my abnormal psychology class I am doing two papers: one on Buffalo Bill and one on Hannibal Lector, and psychoanalyzing the both of them. Does anybody have ideas on what to diagnose them as? Also, do you think Buffalo Bill has a gender identity disorder? Or his he merely a crossdresser?

Remembering that a person can have more than one psychopathology at the same time, I'd start with the personality disorders for Hannibal (antisocial/narcissistic) Have a look at the symptoms and see how many boxes you can tick. Then maybe talk about the unrealistic presentation of these (i.e. the things that didn't fit). As for BB, he would have a personity disorder as well (antisocial? narcissitic? hystrionic? and maybe even borderline?). I didn't think he had a gender identity disorder - it's been a while since I saw the film/read the book, but did he actually feel he was a woman in a man's body? He's obviouslty NOT "mearly a crossdresser". What he definitely did have was a sexual fetish or two. Sadism, transvestic fetishism and whatever the name is for making clothing out of human skin. Am I The Only One Who Thinks Buffalo Bill From Silence Of The Lambs Is The Best Fictional Character Ever?

other than the fact that he skins women to make a body suit, I think that Buffalo Bill is the most interesting character. The scene where he is dancing to "Goodbye Horses" is one of the strongest scenes I've ever seen. Is it wierd that I really like him.

I'd say that you may not actually know much about him...or maybe I'm wrong Ted Levine (Monk, Heat, etc) plays Jame Gumb. He's a character created by Thomas Harris who wrote the book.

Why Did Buffalo Bill And Others Kill So Many Buffalo?

Were people in the 1800's just bored or what? Was buffalo shooting their version of television?

Answer:1. To disrupt the horse culture Plains Indians whole way of living. The Cheyanne, Sioux/Lakota, Crow, and Blackfoot Confederates were by far and away the most feared aboriginal groups in all of white North American society in the late nineteenth century. They were fierce horsemen that could ride out of nowhere and return to the same and there seemed to be nothing whites could do about it. That is of course excepting the practices of causing nothing short of complete economic destruction for them which was acheieved with the extinction of the Plains bison. (Wood and Mountain Bison are what we have left. The Plains bison are gone) It was for this reason the American military and government supported the buffalo hunt. 2. To prevent the herd's destruction of agrarian and industrial infrastructure The bison herds were massive. They could run through fences, destroy ranches, and trample railways into nothing just by passing by. With them gone, you can keep cattle fenced, crops planted, buildings standing, and tracks laid. That was the settlers reason to extinguish the prairie bison. 3. bison hides where larger and heavier than cattle hides which therefore made for better leather. That made them a target for commercial hunters looking to make a few dollars of the leather industry. Once all the meat had rotted off them, the bones too made excellent fertilizer. 4. Trophy hunters killed bison for the same reason they killed elephants, tigers, and grizzleys. They're big and mighty, and make for an excellent trophy to show your "manhood"
