The Big Index Of Everything

Building Regulations?

I am thinking of having a conservatory built and am a little concerned about what I am being told by various builders. The thing that concerns me most is how big does it have to be before it requires planning permission. Someone has told me the size is not the issue but instead what percentage of the structure is ' temporary ' ie glass and not brickwork. Can anyone help?

Answer:get some free advice at the local council planning office/try online

Do The US Building Regulations Differ From State To State?

As the US is such a large country I was wondering if each state has it's own building regulations? A standard of insulation that may be acceptable in Los Angeles will not be really be effective in Fairbanks. If they do have their own regulations, where is it possible to get access to this? Thanks.

Answer:Most definately. states have a standard that has to be ATLEAST as strict as the federal guidelines counties also have their own standard which has to be ATLEAST as strict as the state Cities have a building regulations which must be ATLEAST as strict as the county. for instance, the state of Ga allows skyscrapers, but there are cities that will not allow buildings over 4 stories high (i think marietta)

What Are The Implications Of Buying A Flat Without Planning Permission Or Building Regulations?

I am looking at buying a top-floor flat, but an extension performed approximately 20 years ago does not have building regulations or planning permission. I believe the lack of planning permission is OK after 10 years have elapsed, but what implications are the lack of building regulations have? Thanks

Answer:Be very careful about this one You are right that there is a period of time after which the planners would have a problem turning it down - but not always, particularly if it's grossly in contravention. We had just such a one recently (loft conversion) which came to light when the buyer had local searches done - and the conversion had to be removed. But, if the structure doesn't meet building regs., the extension will have to be removed anyway. You'd have no redress, either, other than to sue the seller. Frankly, the only way to really know is to go and ask the planners, which might give the seller a problem... Honestly, I wouldn't touch it

What Are The Building Regulations On Ground Level Height And Boundary Lines When Building A Housing Estate?

the housing estate is planning to be built next to another housing estate. The ground level will differ in height between the two housing estates, and the boundary lines between the two housing estates will be as little as possible, depending what the laws and regulations allow. This building site is in warwickshire and on land that was previously owned by the local council before it was sold to barratt homes.

Answer:The only people who can answer this question are the local council. Building regs. can vary between different authorities.
