What Is The Proceedure To Get An E-ticketing Agency Of Indian Railways ?

I,am working as a travel agncy in Vatakara, Kerala, India. I wish to become an agency of Indian Railways for their e-ticketing service. I mean, issue of railway ticket and their other servises.

Answer:I doubt if Indian Railways will make anyone an official agent for e-ticketing. But in my city, a lot of agencies have set up shop stating that they can get you e-tickets. You can similarly set up shop in Kerala with a computer and internet connection, and there are enough customers who want a ticket fast but dont know how to use the computer. I dont think any Government agency will object except that your shop should be registered under the Shop and Establishment Act!

Should The Indian Railways Think Of Introducing 5 + 5 = 10 Tracks To And Fro All Over India?

The crowd the Indian Railways have in railway stations is very high. Indian people atleast 50% of them all over India travel in unreserved compartments standing or sitting on the sleeper tiers. Should we have to & fro 5 + 5 = 10 tracks all over India so that more trains could be introdeuced all over India so that the Indian people can travel comfortably without causing any inconvenience to others.

Answer:Once the tracks are out of city limits it is very much possible, but once the tracks approach within city or town limits it will become very difficult to lay tracks due to space crunch especially in a densly populated city like Mumbai. In order to circumvent this problem, when the tracks approach the cities or major towns they should be split into seperate corridors and the stations can be positioned in such a way that they lie in and about the boundary of the city. So for example say there are 5 twin line corridors, people will have a choice of selecting either one of the five corridors depending on where they live in that city. For a very small town or village, it wont make snese to pass 5 twin line corridors through them, instead 5 villages and towns should be selectd lying within say 20-25 kilometers of each other and the five corridors should pass individially through these towns/villages with seperate stations. However, this may seem too good to be true, since it involves factors like Planning, Research, Feasability Study, Cost, Time, Political Will & last but not the least Govt. red tape. Just to give you an example of what I mean...the KONKAN RAILWAY could have very well been a twin line corrridor (1up, 1dn) but it was laid down as a single line route...and i really dont know why...

Author: Mahatma Gandhi
Manufacturer: Dodo Press
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948) was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. In India, he is recognized as the Father of the Nation. A British-educated lawyer, Gandhi first employed his ideas of peaceful civil disobedience in the Indian community's struggle for civil rights in South Africa. Upon his return to India, he led nationwide campaigns for the alleviation of poverty, for the liberation of women, for brotherhood amongst differing religions and ethnicities, for an end to untouchability and caste discrimination, and for the economic self-sufficiency of the nation, but above all for Swaraj-the independence of India from foreign domination. He famously led Indians in the disobedience of the salt tax on the 400 kilometre (248 miles) Dandi Salt March in 1930, and in an open call for the British to Quit India in 1942. He was imprisoned for many years on numerous occasions in both South Africa and India. He dedicated his life to the wider purpose of discovering truth, or Satya. He tried to achieve this by learning from his own mistakes and conducting experiments on himself. He called his autobiography The Story of My Experiments with Truth.

Lines of the Nation: Indian Railway Workers, Bureaucracy, and the Intimate Historical Self (The Cultures of History)
Average Rating: 4.0
Price: $49.00
Author: Laura Bear
Manufacturer: Columbia University Press

Lines of the Nation radically recasts the history of the Indian railways, which have long been regarded as vectors of modernity and economic prosperity. From the design of carriages to the architecture of stations, employment hierarchies, and the construction of employee housing, Laura Bear explores the new public spaces and social relationships created by the railway bureaucracy. She then traces their influence on the formation of contemporary Indian nationalism, personal sentiments, and popular memory. Her probing study challenges entrenched beliefs concerning the institutions of modernity and capitalism by showing that these rework older idioms of social distinction and are legitimized by forms of intimate, affective politics.

Drawing on historical and ethnographic research in the company town at Kharagpur and at the Eastern Railway headquarters in Kolkata (Calcutta), Bear focuses on how political and domestic practices among workers became entangled with the moralities and archival technologies of the railway bureaucracy and illuminates the impact of this history today. The bureaucracy has played a pivotal role in the creation of idioms of family history, kinship, and ethics, and its special categorization of Anglo-Indian workers still resonates. Anglo-Indians were formed as a separate railway caste by Raj-era racial employment and housing policies, and other railway workers continue to see them as remnants of the colonial past and as a polluting influence.

The experiences of Anglo-Indians, who are at the core of the ethnography, reveal the consequences of attempts to make political communities legitimate in family lines and sentiments. Their situation also compels us to rethink the importance of documentary practices and nationalism to all family histories and senses of relatedness. This interdisciplinary anthropological history throws new light not only on the imperial and national past of South Asia but also on the moral life of present technologies and economic institutions.
