How Large Of An Influence Does The Toronto Star Have On Your Opinions About The Tories And The Environment?

I'm doing a research paper on the relationship between the media and the government. Some points to consider: - if the policy is the product, the media is the packager - whether you personally think the Tories have done enough on the environment - whether your opinion differs or is similar to the Toronto Star's view (they think Stephen Harper is all talk on the environment) Thanks for answering!

Answer:Absolutly none, I learned to think for myself a long time ago.

How Are Columnists For Newspapers (specifically, The Toronto Star) Chosen?

I don't seem to see an open casting call, or anything of the sort?

Answer:Well, as an ex-newspaper hound, most of them start out as reporters/feature writers for whatever local newspaper is around. Also, most of them have degrees in journalism and either intern work or as cub reporters. They work their way up and eventually can broach the subject to the Executive Editor or their direct editorial boss. Usually, first the reporter finds a story or feature (human interest, "Local Actor Makes Good', or "local boyscout is town hero" type of stories--that's pretty much what features are) that their editor is pleased with and they work up from there. You don't just "become" a columnist. There is no "audition" at all, that concept is completely alien to what columnists and journalists are and the entire concept we are talking about. If you want to work at the Toronto Star, you'd better start taking classes and working towards even a small degree (Associate in Arts--A.A. or Associate in Science--A.S.) in order to even be hired. Just because you think you can do a better job than whatever columnist doesn't mean you can, especially if you're under the misconception that you have to audition. Most columnists have worked their way up and moved up to major papers. IF their column proves successful enough--we're talking hundreds of thousands of readers at the very least--they MIGHT be approached or might have enough clout to approach an agent who can get them syndicated--meaning their column is printed regularly nationwide in all the companies' papers. By asking if there is an audition, unless you choose to lay the background and experience (via college and entry level jobs) I hate to tell you, you have shown that you basically don't stand a chance. Sorry, but it's the truth.

What Is The Font Of The Toronto Star NewsPaper?

Font as in 'Arial,' 'Times New Roman,'... Thanks everybody in advance!

Answer:Hi there! Assuming you mean the "body face" (the font that all the articles are written in, not the headlines), the official one used by the Toronto Star is called "Torstar Text". It's a font (typographers call them "typefaces", not fonts) that was custom designed just for the newspaper, so it isn't available commercially (as in, you can't buy or download it). Here's an article that mentions the font, when the Toronto Star decided to make it a slightly larger size this past summer: http://www.snd.org/canadablog/2007/05/toronto-star-redesigns.html I hope this helps! EDIT: If you want to find a similar-looking font, I suggest you use Identifont to come up with suggestions. You'll need a sample of text from The Toronto Star.
