What To Expect At A Toys R Us Group Interview?
I have a toys r us group interview and I was wondering if anyone with prior experience can tell me what to expect? Also, I hear you have to sell them a toy, can you give me some helpful selling points?
Answer:I just recently got a job at Toys R Us! It was my second group interview of my life and I actually don't mind the process. But anyway...
As soon as I arrived, they asked me to pick any toy in the store and go wait in the back break room. Once a supervisor came back there, we were asked to write out how we would go about selling the toy. Highlighting the toy's features was one point they really wanted us to do. I chose a WWE wrestling action figure (Randy Orton) and capped off the paper with "Just like Randy Orton, this affordable price is also hard to beat" It was corny, but that's what job interviews are all about.
Next, we were asked to work as a team to build something out of the legos they provided. The legos sucked and there weren't many things we could build. I'm also not the best with hands-on projects, so this wasn't my forte. We ended up building a helicopter/airplane/flying object thing. Then we also had to briefly talk about the toy and it's capabilities.
Finally, the supervisor told us that we had to give an acceptance speech for a fictional award they gave us (mine was selling the most batteries for the month of September) This was just a small, 1 minute speech they were expecting, you don't have to go very in-depth here.
Then they'll ask others to leave for one on one interviews. I'd say this part took me about 10 minutes and the questions are fairly basic (how would you approach this situation, help this customer, etc...) After the one on one portion, they immeditately offered me the job and I signed on the dotted line and received a schedule for training. The first training was about an hour and included a scavenger hunt. The second day of training was about 3 hours of training in their computer program (BORING)
In closing, I may have had it easier because there was only one other person at the interview other than myself, he was a male that was around my age. I haven't seen him at the job yet, so i'm thinking that maybe him and I were in direct competition for the job! Just remember that at the interview, it'll be imporant to work as a team but also talk about why you're the person that Toys R Us needs on their roster.
I'm not 100% sure if your interview will be the same format, but my mother who also had an interview at Toys R Us about a year ago had the same setup that I just laid out. It might depend on where you live, management, etc...
